Why is there a split/splice in my roll of tulle?

As part of the quality control process, the factory workers are watching for holes, defects, colour inconsistencies, marks, etc.  If they notice these, they will cut out the defective fabric.   As long as the defect is close enough to the end or beginning of a roll, they will discard the entire piece.

If the defect is in the middle of a roll, they may cut the fabric, remove the defective piece, and continue the roll.

There are normal guidelines around the number of splits or splices allowed in a roll of fabric.  Although we don't expect ANY splits, it is still acceptable to have the following:

  • 25 yard roll or bolt of tulle: 0 splits
  • 50 yard roll or bolt of tulle: 1 split
  • 100 yard roll or bolt of tulle: 1 split
